Poschiavino in Poschiavo

The Poschiavino is a 30 km long right tributary of the Adda, which lies mostly in Switzerland and 3 km in Italy. Its 238 km ² large catchment area covers mainly the Grisons valley Poschiavo. The main tributaries are the Cavagliasch and Saent.

The Poschiavino rises to 2,300 m above sea level. M. of several small sources at the Forcola di Livigno, near the Italian border. The uppermost part of the valley called Val lagoon ends with the approximately 1870 m high plateau of La Rösa. In the next 5 km of Poschiavino flows through a narrow wooded valley before reaching the approximately 10 km long, from 1100 m to 960 m gently sloping valley of Poschiavo. There flows from the right Cavagliasch with a rocky gorge. After the Poschiavino has the Lago di Poschiavo flows through, a section in a relatively moderate gradient across Brusio, Campascio closes - where the Saent opens - and Campocologno to Piattamala bottleneck at the border to. In Tirano, the only Italian place in the river that flows Poschiavino to 409 m altitude in the Adda.

The water of the Poschiavino is used in several power plants of Raetia energy to generate electricity.
