Postage stamp reuse

Paint stripes on stamps serve as a protective measure against fraudulent use of already used stamps.

Stamps with paint strips were spent first in 1901 in Austria. The fiber paper that was used before the introduction of the paint strip, has now been covered before output even with shiny paint stripes. By the end of 1899 made it numerous attempts in terms of size and history. Some of these proofs arrived in the trade.

The paint strips partially dissolve with the brand image in the water ( or other liquids ) on. The removal of the postmark, to use the stamps again can be so much more difficult.

About 2 mm wide strip coating proceeded from upper left to lower right at a distance of about 7 mm. The thickness and removal of the resist strip was amended several times since it was never really satisfied with the result. As of February 1905 we finally decided against it.

In Russia also paint stripes were used on a similar principle 1909-1915.
