Postbank N.V.

Postbank N.V. was a state-owned financial institution in the Netherlands. It was created by the government as Rijkspostspaarbank ( German: Empire Post Office Savings Bank) founded in 1881. In 1986, the privatization and merger with the postal giro service under the name of Postbank. 1989 was the NMB Postbank Groep and a further merger with the insurance company Nationale- Nederlanden in 1990 led to the founding of ING Groep. Prior to the merger, Postbank had N.V. approximately 7.5 million residential customers and was one of the largest financial institutions in the Netherlands.

On 16 May 2007, ING Group announced that its subsidiaries, ING Bank and Postbank will occur in the future only under one brand. The new organization took place in February 2009 under the name ING and had an estimated 8.3 million private customers.
