Pouilly-Fumé

Pouilly Fumé is a famous area of ​​origin for white wine, a Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire wine whose name Fumé (French: smoked) from the geology of the area of ​​dates that occur develop during impact sparks and smoke in the fire bricks. Excellent wines make this appeal to flint understand the bouquet and taste. The other part of its name comes from the town of Pouilly -sur- Loire, close to the production areas. Since 31 July 1937, the area has the status of an Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ).

The area is in the extended axis of the regions of Sancerre and Menetou salon. Further to the west close to the areas of Reuilly and Quincy. Pouilly Fumé - is part of the Loire wine region.

The growing area extends across the communities Garchy, Mesves -sur -Loire, Pouilly -sur -Loire, Saint- Andelain Saint -Laurent L'Abbaye, Saint -Martin- sur- Nohain, Boisgibault and Tracy- sur -Loire of the Department Nièvre. The crop is at an annual 70,000 hectoliters of wine.

Pouilly Fumé - should not be produced with the same area but a different character having Pouilly -sur -Loire from Chasselas ( Chasselas ) be confused and not even with Pouilly- Fuissé, Pouilly- Loché and Pouilly- Vinzelles. In all three cases is Chardonnayweine from the Burgundy region.
