Poulnabrone Dolmen

Poulnabrone Dolmen ( Poll na Bron irish ger " the hole in the millstone ," even Poll na mBrón, dt " the hole of worry," therefore engl. Called the hole of the sorrows ) is not a portal tomb, as often stated but a wedge tomb, which was reconstructed amateurish. It is located in the Burren, County Clare, Ireland, and was in the Neolithic period, probably built in 3800-3200 BC. The dolmen consists of two orthostat that support an approximately 3.65 m long capstone. It was originally covered by a cairn.

Restoration work was carried out in 1986, after 1985, a crack was discovered in the eastern of the two supporting stones. However, not only the damaged bearing stone was renewed, but also an additional orthostat set on the west side, to stabilize the capstone. In the course of this work Ann Lynch could also carry out excavations, where they found the remains of burials that had been preserved in the troughs in the limestone. These tracks are dated to around 3000 BC ( 5100-4900 BP).
