Prairie-Masker
The Prairie - Masker system is used in military ships to reduce their radiated noise. This means that their location is complicated by enemy sonar.
The Prairie / Masker system consists of two components that are only usually used together:
Prairie
The Prairie component produces small air bubbles on the propeller. This change and reduce the noise of the ship. Also is prevented at a high rate of cavitation because the bubbles of air to replace the gas bubbles from the water.
Masker
The masker component generated by a compressor many small air bubbles under the hull that are broadcast by a kind of belt. These reflect the sound, the noise level decreases. Usually, this system is used in the vicinity of the engine room, where the loudest noise. Isolate A ship so completely is not an option as also their own sonar system can not penetrate (except towing sonar ).
Applications
The Prairie - Masker system is at least used by the United States Navy with many surface vessels, such as Destroyers and cruisers. The system is also an important ingredient in the anti-submarine.
