Prehotep I (Vizier)

Rahotep, also Parahotep was a vizier of the Egyptian King (Pharaoh) Ramses II ( * ca 1298 BC; † July 19, 1213 BC).

Rahotep probably originated in the area of the Fayum, where he was also buried. He was the son of the later High Priest of Ptah Pahemnetjer and was probably born under Seti I.. Since the second decade of the reign of Ramses II Rahotep is attested in the Office of northern vizier. He was also High Priest of Ptah and High Priest of Heliopolis. He received both items at the end of his life. His wife was Heli, daughter of the High Priest of Onuris Minmose, which Rahotep was connected to another important family in the country.

From this vizier many monuments have been preserved. At the end of his career Rahotep was finally appointed High Priest of Ptah. The older research was based on two viziers, as there are five canopic jars this vizier and a person usually had only four of these. Recent research sees in him but only one person, although there are still to no real unanimity on this issue. The grave of Rahotep was found in Sedment, at the entrance to the Fayum. The plant was badly damaged when it was excavated in 1921. It consisted of an aboveground chapel, which was richly decorated with columns, reliefs and statues. The underground grave chambers contained several burials, including the sarcophagi of Rahotep and his wife.
