Premio Paolo Borciani

The International String Quartet Competition Premio Paolo Borciani place since 1987 in Reggio Emilia every three years. He is dedicated to Paolo Borciani the famous founder and first violinist of the Quartetto Italiano.

Structure

Organizers and supporters of the competition is the Fondazione I Theatres of Reggio Emilia; artistic director is the cellist Mario Brunello; Founder is the pianist Guido A. Borciani, brother of Paolo Borciani.

Today, twenty years later, the "Premio Paolo Borciani " one of the most important music competitions in the world. Honorary Committee include: Claudio Abbado, Radu Lupu, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Riccardo Muti, Arvo Pärt, Maurizio Pollini, Wolfgang Rihm, Salvatore Sciarrino, Marco Stroppa, Alban Berg Quartet, Borodin Quartet, Tokyo String Quartet.

So far, the competition has taken place nine times.

Again and again it happened in the past that no first prize was awarded.
