Prerower Strom

The Prerower current or Prerowstrom is an inlet of the Baltic Sea. It starts at the island Schmidtbülten in Bodstedter Bodden and winds up in the countryside of the peninsula fish - darss, where he separates the Darß of the Zingst peninsula. History

The Prerower power is not a river but a so-called tidal inlet, and emerged only in the first millennium AD, when the Zingst began to dry fall permanently. In general, the flow of the stream was Prerower landward, thereby Schmidtbülten have emerged as part of a decline in the Delta. Until the 19th century the Prerower power connected the lagoon with the open sea and was up to 10.35 km long. In 1872, however, it arrived in the area to a heavy storm flood, during which the northern part of the current at Prerow silted up and was consequently filled up in 1874 and secured by dikes.

The Prerower power today

Today is the stream in which a long time no more flow exists, divided into four parts, all of which are separated by road embankments and connected by small channels. They are up to 3 meters deep on average.

The longest part is 7.13 km long and extends from the bay to the provincial road 21 (L 21), the so-called Bäderstraße Prerow. West of the road, in Prerow, there are three smaller current lakes, each 500 meters to 700 meters long.

Cruises, leisure and " folk festival "

In the main part of Prerower stream you can go at Prewow from several locations on the peninsula fish - darss and the nearby mainland. This is possible with ferries and passenger vessels.

On the middle of the western lakes to reach, on the road leading to the pier in the Baltic Sea, you can also pedal boating and fishing. At the southwest corner of the lake, at the mall boat rentals, there are also some sweets stalls, a ship swings and a carousel. Of the locals, this corner is therefore also known as " festival ". Further north, towards the pier, the shopping street, you only must navigate restricted from developed here, because about 20 souvenir and specialty shops on the busiest street with shops on the peninsula.
