President of Mongolia

The President of Mongolia is the head of state of Mongolia.

It has the following competencies:

  • He nominated a candidate for the office of the Prime Minister, who must then be confirmed by the Great State Khural (Parliament). This task is, however, largely a formality, since the disputed parliamentary candidates already out of the question.
  • He has a right to veto parliamentary decisions, but that this may overrule a two-thirds majority.
  • He confirmed the appointment of judges.
  • He has presided over the National Security Council.
  • He leads the overall command of the Mongol forces.

The president is elected for a term of four years by direct popular vote, with a limit of two terms. Candidates are nominated by the parties represented in parliament.

History

The office of president was established under that name until after democratization. However, its function as such existed in the time of the communist Mongolian People's Republic. That is why today, the leaders of this time are referred to as state president.

Sometimes the Bogd Khan is considered to be "president" of Mongolia. In this case, it was the spiritual leader of the country before the Communist revolution. But in general, the title applies only to the following secular heads of state. Sometimes Balingiin Tserendordsch Beise is, which in 1924 actually led the state power, also referred to as the President, but the official count begins only with Nawadordschiin Jadambaa, which was formally elected by the Great State Khural Chairman. Just one day after the management structure was reorganized, and raised the chairman of the Little State Khural ( the executive body of the Parliament ) as head of state. The Little State Khural was later disbanded, and the Chairman of the Presidium of the Great State Churals was as head of state. Shortly thereafter, the company was renamed, which also changed the title of the head of state in Chairman of the Grand People's Churals. With the democratic constitution of 1990 then the title of president was also formally introduced.
