Přeštice

Přeštice ( German Přestitz, 1939-1945: Pschestitz ) is a Czech town south of Pilsen and has 6412 inhabitants. The city is situated at 345 m above sea level. M. in the wide, gentle valley of the middle river course of Úhlava in the southern arm of the Pilsener valley.

History

The first written reference is found in a charter of King Otakar I in the early 13th century. Prehistoric finds prove the settlement as early as the Bronze Age. Before the Hussite Prestice belonged to the monastery Kladruby. In the 15th and 16th century the town was owned by the noble family of Schwihau Riesenberg ( Švihovský ), whose coat of arms of the city has adopted two black female eagle in their coat of arms.

An important landmark is the Baroque Church of the Assumption, built in the years 1750-1775 according to the plans of architect Kilian Ignaz church Dienzenhofer. With a major renovation in recent years, the church received its Baroque tower two essays that had been missing.

In the House of History Prestice there is a permanent exhibition of the original of a store from the interwar period, ancient crafts and commercial services in the area.

Between Prestice and Dolni Lukavice is a 380 kV substation, in the herkommenden a circuit of the Etzenricht ( Bavaria ) line ends.

To Prestice include the districts Skočice ( Skotschitz ) Zastávka and Žerovice ( Scherowitz ).
