Primaballerina assoluta

Prima Ballerina Assoluta is the " absolute greatest ballerina of her time ."

For the first time the title of the late 19th century has been awarded by the Tsar to the outstanding ballerina of the Imperial Ballet in St. Petersburg. The first title winner was the Italian Pierina Legnani. The second, and last appointed by the czar was Mathilda Maria Kschessinskaja. In the Soviet Union the title to Galina Ulanova was awarded.

The American dancer Eva Evdokimova was named by the Berlin Senate for the prima ballerina in 1973. For Prima Ballerina Assoluta she was nominated for a guest appearance with the Kirov Ballet in Leningrad.

The Royal Ballet Margot Fonteyn 1979 appointed Prima Ballerina Assoluta.
