Prince Alfred of Liechtenstein

Alfred Aloys Eduard Prinz von und zu Liechtenstein ( born July 11, 1842 in Prague, † October 8, 1907 at Schloss Hollenegg ) was an Austrian politician.

Origin

Prince Alfred was a son of the Austrian General Franz von und zu Liechtenstein and Countess Julie Eudoxia of Potocki - Piława. Alfred was born into a sideline of the royal house which came with his grandson Franz Josef II in 1938 in Liechtenstein to the government.

Life

After the completion of a law school from 1864 to 1866 Prince Alfred joined the Austrian army, in which he rose to the rank of Major. As a politician, he joined in Graz since 1873, emerged as the leader of a conservative and anti-liberal committees. He succeeded the entry into the state parliament of the Duchy of Styria, where he remained until 1899. With a mandate of the constituency Radkersburg field Bach, he moved in 1879 to the House of Representatives of the Austrian Imperial Council, where he served until 1878. In the High warden 's right-wing party, he made up for the introduction of a parochial school. In 1881 he founded with his brother Aloys of Liechtenstein, the Liechtenstein Christian-oriented club. When his father died in 1887, was chief of his Alfred Liechtenstein sidelines and took over the corresponding hereditary seat in the House. There he took over the leadership of the clerical wing of the Conservatives. Towards the end of his life, Alfred thought of Liechtenstein retired to his estates in Styria.

Prince Alfred was recorded in 1903 as 1143. Knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece.

Progeny

On April 26, 1865 married Prince Alfred in Vienna his cousin Henriette. The couple had ten children together:

  • Franziska (1866-1939) remained unmarried
  • Franz (1868-1929) remained unmarried
  • Julia (1868 ), died shortly after birth
  • Alois (1869-1955), married in 1903 Elisabeth Amalie of Austria. The marriage produced eight children were born, including Prince Franz Josef II
  • Maria Theresa (1871-1964), remained unmarried
  • Johann (1873-1959), since 1906 married to Marie Countess Andrássy of Czik - Szent- Király and Krasna Horka ( 1886-1961 ). The marriage produced five children and numerous descendants were born
  • Alfred Roman (1875-1930), 1928 Provisional Prime Minister of Liechtenstein, since 1912 married to Maria Theresia Princess of Oettingen - Oettingen and Oettingen -Wallerstein ( 1887-1971 ). The marriage produced four children and numerous descendants were born
  • Heinrich (1877-1915), remained unmarried
  • Karl Aloys (1878-1955), 1918-1920 provisional Landesverweser Liechtenstein, since 1921 married to Elisabeth Princess of Urach, Countess of Württemberg. The marriage produced four children and numerous descendants were born
  • Georg (1880-1931), was a Benedictine monk in Prague
