Prince Heinrich XV of Reuss-Plauen

Prince Heinrich XV. Reuss to Greiz ( born February 22, 1751 Greiz; † August 30, 1825 ) was an Austrian field marshal.

Life

Heinrich XV. was a younger son of Prince Heinrich XI. Reuss to Greiz and its first wife Countess Reuss Konradine to Koestritz.

Prince Heinrich XV. also carried the title of prince, though his older brother Heinrich XIII was reigning prince Reuss Greiz. This explains the fact that his father had been considered during the survey in the imperial princes with the honor that all of his male descendants were allowed to assume the title of prince.

Heinrich joined Austrian service, in 1787 Adjutant General of Emperor Joseph II and then increasingly entrusted with military duties. The prince, he distinguished himself in Flanders in 1793 and was promoted to Major General for his services in the First Coalition War on May 29. He was appointed adjutant of Field Marshal Prince of Saxe- Coburg -Saalfeld, and participated in the siege of the fortress of Maubeuge. 1796 took over the prince a brigade of the Austrian army on the Upper Rhine, and was assigned to the Corps under Lieutenant-General Davidovich, which marched away to Italy to try the relief attempt of the besieged Mantua.

On September 4, 1796 his troops were attacked and thrown back at Roveredo of Massena, while Trent was lost to the French. On 14 and 15 January 1797 he took under Alvinzy part in the Battle of Rivoli and was promoted to Lieutenant-General on 1 March 1797. After the defeat in Italy, he led his division in March 1797 back to an eastern route via Gradisca and Gorizia to Ljubljana.

In 1799, FML Reuss fought under the Archduke Charles in Swabia, his troops fought on March 25 at Stockach and on May 27 at Winterthur. On June 4, 1799, he fought in the Battle of Zurich, where he rejected the Austrian center standing, repeated attacks by the French under Oudinot. Despite following the Austrian defeat in southern Germany, he succeeded in 1800 keep the enemy from Tyrol. In 1801, the emperor appointed him colonel owner of the Infantry Regiment No. 17

In the campaign of 1805 Prince Reuss led his division back to Italy under Archduke Charles fought his troops on 30 October in the Battle of Caldiero.

In the campaign of 1809, he first commanded a division of the Association of the 5th Corps under Archduke Ludwig, after the battle of Ebelsberg on May 3, he was promoted to field -marshal. Beginning in July 1809 during the Battle of Wagram, he was already commander of the 5th Corps itself, which was posted as a reserve north-east of Vienna in Bisamberg. His troops were not directly involved in the battle but contributed significantly to at which the Austrian retreat could be made subordinate. Archduke Charles drew from him for the Knight's Cross of Maria Theresa Order.

Together with Carl Philipp von Wrede in 1813 he was involved in the Treaty of Ried, who sealed the secession of Bavaria from the Confederation of the Rhine, which is why he was awarded by Emperor Francis I with the Grand Cross of the Order of Leopold.

Heinrich XV. was born on April 20, 1814 the first governor-general of Venice, after it had fallen in 1814 to Austria and later General Commander in Galicia. After he had retired in 1824 in private life, he was still appointed Field Marshal von Franz on 10 September 1824. He died a year later unmarried in Greiz.
