Prince Louis of Anhalt-Köthen

Ludwig of Anhalt- Köthen ( born September 25, 1778 in Köthen; † September 16, 1802 ) was a German prince.

He was the youngest son of Karl Georg Lebrecht (1730-1789) and his wife Luise of Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg ( 1749-1812 ).

Life

He stood from 1798 as a Major in the regiment of the king in Danish service, where he received his military training. In 1801 he resigned from the service and went into Prussian service.

After his brother Karl Wilhelm had fallen in Obrechies 1793, Ludwig was intended as a successor to his elder brother August. This was childless when Louis died unexpectedly. So his son Ludwig August was his heir.

Family

On September 20, 1800 Ludwig Luise Karoline Theodora married Amalie of Hesse- Darmstadt (* January 15, 1779, † April 18, 1811 ). She was the daughter of Ludwig I. The couple had the following children.:

  • Friedrich Wilhelm August (* July 7, 1801, † October 29, 1801 )
  • Ludwig August Karl Friedrich Emil (* September 20, 1802, † December 18, 1818 )
