Princess Adélaïde of Orléans

Adélaïde d' Orléans, (full name Louise Marie Adélaïde Eugénie d' Orléans ), also known as Mademoiselle d' Orléans ( * August 23, 1777 at the Palais Royal in Paris, † December 31, 1847 at the Palais des Tuileries in Paris ) was a member of the French royal family from the House of Orléans and sister of King Louis Philippe I of France.

Life

Adélaïde and her twin sister Françoise (1777-1782) were the only daughters of Duke Louis Philippe Joseph II of Orléans, who was guillotined in 1793, and his wife, Louise Marie Adélaïde de Bourbon - Penthièvre, daughter of Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon, duc de Penthièvre.

Thus it came from the paternal younger brother of Louis XIV (see Bourbons ), mother of Comte de Toulouse, a legitimate son of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan. She was, however, also a descendant of the regent Philip II of Orléans and his wife Françoise Marie de Bourbon - Blois, a legitimized daughter of Louis XIV, it was in this way a direct descendant of the Sun King.

As in 1814, the Count of Provence as King Louis XVIII. ascended the throne of France, they returned to France. 1824 bought Madame Adélaïde, as it was now called, the Randan castle and had it completely renovate. Through the July Revolution king Charles X was forced to abdicate and went into exile in England. On the power came the financial bourgeoisie, whose protege was her brother. Duke Louis Philippe of Orléans, a cousin of Charles X from the branch line of the Bourbons, was King of the French (the " Citizen King "). After the period of the " July Monarchy ", which was regarded as the Golden Age of the French bourgeoisie began. Two months before the fall of her brother, whom she had a loyal counselor and confidant, died Princess Adélaïde of Orléans and was buried in the Chapelle royale Saint -Louis to Dreux. In her honor, was named the 1826 bred by Antoine A. Jacques Rambler Rose.
