Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Hohenberg

Elisabeth of Luxembourg ( born December 22, 1922 on Schlossberg, † 22 November, 2011 Fischbach ), (other names Hilda Zita, Mary, Anna, Antonia, Fredericke, Wilhelmine Luise ) was Princess of Luxembourg, Nassau and Bourbon -Parma. The second child of Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg (1896-1985) and her husband Prince Felix of Bourbon- Parma (1893-1970), a brother of the Empress Zita of Austria, she was a long time after her brother Jean caused the number two to the throne the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Youth

At the eve of the German invasion on 10 May 1940, the Grand Ducal family fled across southern France to Spain and Portugal, from where she on 15 July with the cruiser USS Trenton, which had been provided by the U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, fled to America. In order to respect the neutrality of the United States of America, they moved on to Montreal in Canada. Grand Duchess Charlotte herself went with members of the government into exile in London. Prince Felix, her eldest son, Prince Jean and Princess Elizabeth followed her to London in 1942. Having already stayed her father and brother since September 1944 again in Luxembourg, she returned with the rest of the family after the liberation in April 1945.

Wedding

On December 22, 1955 married Princess Elisabeth of Luxembourg Prince and later Duke Franz Ferdinand of Hohenberg, who was born on September 13, 1927 in Artstetten. He was the eldest son of the Duke Maximilian of Hohenberg (1902-1962) and Countess Elisabeth von Walburg Wolfegg and Waldsee (1904-1993) and grandson of the heir Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Duchess of Hohenberg, both murdered in 1914 in Sarajevo were. The wedding took place in St. Mary's Cathedral on May 9, 1956. The couple then lived at Castle Artstetten in Lower Austria. Descendants and later life

Her two daughters Princess Anita of Hohenberg ( b. 1958 ), the 1978 French Count Romée de La Poeze d' Harambure married and Princess Sophie of Hohenberg ( b. 1960 ), they married in 1983 the Belgian Baron Jean Louis de Potesta, were on Schlossberg born in Luxembourg.

After her husband's death was Princess Elisabeth of Luxembourg sole heir of Artstetten and handed over in 1983 this property of their oldest daughter, the Countess de La Romée Poeze d' Harambure. After the death of the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg 1985 Princess Elizabeth resided in Fischbach in Luxembourg. From 1980 to 1990 she regularly took part in official events. She was regarded as the "memory " of the family, and finally resided with her brother, the Grand Duke Jean, on the Grand Ducal Palace Fischbach in the canton of Mersch. She died on 22 November 2011 and was buried on 3 December in the crypt of Artstetten in Lower Austria.
