Marie, Princess of Denmark, Countess of Monpezat, ( born February 6, 1976 in Paris when Marie Agathe Odile Cavallier ) is the second wife of Prince Joachim of Denmark.

Origin

Marie is the daughter of Alain Cavallier, who owned an advertising agency, and Françoise Moreau Grassiot born. Her parents married on June 14, 1975 and were divorced in 1987. Marie has four half-brothers: Benjamin and Gregory Grandet from the first marriage of the mother, and Charles and Edouard Cavallier from the second marriage of the father. Her mother married on November 7, 1987 in his third marriage to entrepreneur Christian Grassiot. The mother and stepfather live in Geneva and Villars -sur -Ollon. The mother owns the hotel Château de la Vernède near Avignon in Provence. Marie's father lives in Paris.

Training and Employment Opportunities

Marie attended from 1981 to 1989 a primary school in Paris. From 1989 to 1993 Marie visited the boarding school Collège Alpin International Beau Soleil in Villars -sur -Ollon ( Switzerland ). She studied economics from 1994 to 1995 at the University of Geneva and from 1995 to 1997 at Babson College, Boston, Massachusetts. Afterwards she studied from 1997 to 1999 at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts.

As a student she worked in marketing and public relations: in the summer of 1994 as an assistant at Estee Lauder in Paris, in the summer of 1997 as an assistant at ING Numismatic Group SA in Geneva.

After graduating she worked from 1999 to 2002 for the advertising agency DoubleClick Inc. in New York, in 2002 and 2003 for an advertising agency in Paris, 2004 for the Reuters news agency in Geneva and from 2005 until her marriage as Executive Secretary at ING Numismatic Group SA, a company that manages her stepfather. From 2006 to 2007 she also belonged to the company Club Foot Passion Sàrl.

Besides her native French, she speaks Danish, English, Spanish and Italian.

Marriage and children

Marie Cavallier and Prince Joachim had met on a hunt in Denmark in 2002 and have been dating for mid-2005. In 2006 they separated for several months. The couple became engaged in the summer of 2007 in Turkey and on 3 October 2007, the Danish court announced the engagement known. The wedding took place in Møgeltønder on 24 May 2008. The couple live at Castle Schackenborg in South Jutland and also has a residence at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.

Cavallier had French citizenship. This has, however, abandoned the marriage to become Danish nationals. She belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, but stepped over to the wedding for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Denmark.

With Prince Joachim has two children together:

  • His Highness Prince Henrik Carl Joachim Alain to Denmark, Count of Monpezat ( born May 4, 2009 in Copenhagen ). The Prince was baptized on 26 July, 2009 Møgeltønder. His godparents were Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Benjamin Grandet, Charles Cavallier, Britt Davidsen Siesbye and Christian Scherfig.
  • Princess Athena Marguerite Françoise Marie, Countess of Monpezat ( born January 24, 2012 in Copenhagen). The Princess was christened on May 20, 2012 in Møgeltønder and on this day also the first names were announced. Your godparents are her uncle Gregory Grandet, her uncle Edouard Cavallier, Carina Axelsson, the partner of Gustav of Sayn -Wittgenstein- Berleburg, who is a cousin of Prince Joachim, Julie Mirabaud, Diego de Lavandeyra and Henriette Steenstrup.

Marie has a good relationship with the sons of Prince Joachim from his first marriage.

Princess Marie is the godmother of Princess Josephine to Denmark as well as by Magali Siesbye, daughter of Oscar and Britt Davidsen Siesbye, Agathe Anna Steenstrup, daughter of Peter and Henriette Steenstrup, and Nicholas Bendtner, son of Caroline Flemming and Nicklas Bendtner.

Official tasks used

The Princess is the patron of eight organizations, including the AIDS Foundation, the Copenhagen Jewellery Fair, the Danish Ski Federation and the Danish National Commission for UNESCO. At the same time it supports the Syddansk Universitet.
