Principality of Pereyaslavl

The Principality Perejaslawl was from the 11th century, a part of the Principality of Kievan Rus and insisted upon their disintegration for some time as an independent principality until its annexation by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The Principality was southeast of Kiev on the Dnieper left side on the border of so-called "Wild Field ". Its center Perejaslawl (now Perejaslav -Khmelnytskyi ) was expanded under the Kievan Prince Vladimir to a frontier fortress against the robbery of the Pechenegs. In the north, bordering the new part principality, which had an important position in Senioratsystem of Rurik, to the Principality of Chernigov, on the west by the Principality of Kiev. Its population formed the Eastern Slavic tribes Sewerjanen and Ulitschen.

From the end of the 11th century, the Principality Perejaslawl as well as the neighboring principality of Kiev was among the Rurik highly competitive, which favored the incursions of steppe nomads. In the 12th century, therefore, began a migration process of Perejaslawler population to the north, in the quieter area between Oka and Volga, the (later Vladimir - Suzdal ) belonged to the Principality of Rostov - Suzdal. Numerous duplication of the southern Russian toponyms, eg Pereslawl- Salesski or the flow Trubesch, remember the origin of the settlers.

On March 3, 1239 Perejaslawl was taken and pillaged by the Mongols. Subsequently, the principality was under the suzerainty of the Golden Horde.

1321 was Prince Oleg of Perejaslawl at the Battle of Irpen in which several South Russian princes tried in vain to prevent an invasion of Lithuania Gediminas below. From this point, the Principality Perejaslawl fell under the domination of Lithuania and was soon dissolved it.
