Prisse Papyrus

The Papyrus Prisse was named after Prisse d' Avennes, who bought it in Western Thebes. The document is located in the National Library of France ( Bibliothèque nationale de France ).

The papyrus belongs to the ancient Egyptian literature and contains two lessons that are referred to as wisdom or life lessons: The lesson for Kagemni, of which however only the end, and the doctrine of Ptahhotep, also maxim of Ptahhotep called. It probably dates to the 13th Dynasty, where it is assumed that both the incomplete text of the lesson for Kagemni as well as the teaching of Ptahhotep from the time of the Old Kingdom come.
