Privacy Commissioner of Canada

The Privacy Commissioner of Canada (French: Commissaire à la protection de la vie privée du Canada ) is the Canadian national data protection authority.

It is independent of the government and directly informed the House of Representatives and the Senate. The seat is Ottawa. In addition to the person of the Privacy Commissioner the authority has two assistants.

The task of the Privacy Commissioner is to safeguard the privacy rights of Canadian citizens. For this he is to investigate complaints, publishes information on privacy practices and conducts public relations.

Acting Supervisor is the successor of George Radwanski since December 1, 2003 Jennifer Stoddart; their term of office is seven years. The current assistants are Heather Black and Raymond D' Aoust. Since February 2004, is part of the DPA, an external advisory committee.

The Privacy Commissioner of Canada is a member of the International Conference of Data Protection Commissioner and the protection of privacy and is represented there by Jennifer Stoddart.
