Production I.G

Production IG (Japanese株式会社 プロダクション·アイジー, Kabushiki - gaisha Purodakushon Aiji, Eng. , Production IG, Inc.) is a Japanese anime production studio based in Tokyo.

History

The studio was founded on 15 December 1987 under the name of IG Tatsunoko by Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and Takayuki Goto. The "F " in the name stands for the initials of the surnames of the founders, " Tatsunoko " is the name of the studio, for both worked before. Its current name was given to the company in 1993, but still in the legal form of a GmbH Japanese ( Yugen gaisha ). 1998, the legal form to a joint stock company ( kabushiki - gaisha ) was changed. 1995, the daughter studio Xebec was founded.

Production IG consists of ten studios, all of which are each responsible for an area, including background drawings, computer graphics and video game development. In March 1997, they founded a branch in Los Angeles, another studio is located in Niigata.

In 2007, the Company completed the manga publisher Mag Garden together and formed the joint holding KK IG Port (株式会社IGポート, Kabushiki - gaisha IG Poto ).

The Studio 9 has been specially designed for the production of the TV series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex established, though Production IG at that time actually consisted only of seven departments. The name, however, was chosen based on the " Section 9" called special unit of the series is about.
