The term Professional Service Firm means a company, the knowledge-intensive services for client companies created. This free professional service are a result of the trend to a knowledge and service economy.

Demarcation

Professional service firms are companies in the so-called tertiary sector. This includes all services. Services can be of industrial goods with particular reference to two constitutive features differ: the immateriality and the integration of the customer in the provision of services. Since the applicable attributes for services for professional services usually apply simultaneously and are particularly strong, they are also described as pure and most typical form of service.

Thus, the same is accompanied by a differentiation from other networks (services ) sectors on mission-critical resources. For professional service firms, three resources can be identified, which significantly influence the company's success: knowledge, relationship skills and reputation.

Archetypes

A distinction is made in professional service firms in general between two archetypes: Professional Partnership ( p2) and Managed Professional Business (MBP ).
