Propodeum

Propodeum ( from Latin per, before 'and Latin podium, balcony ', translate with, above the waist ') called at hymenoptera with wasp waist, the first segment of the abdomen ( tummy). The unit of propodeum and thorax forms the mesosoma. It has no sternum and is firmly adherent to the metanotum. This segment tapers to the rear, giving the wasp waist of Hymenoptera their typical form, together with the existing Stielchenglied only sometimes ( petiole ).
