Prosper Weil

Prosper Weil ( born 21 September 1926 in Strasbourg ) is a French lawyer and expert in the field of international administrative law. He worked as a professor at various universities, as from 1965 at the University of Paris, and from 1980 to 1999 Member of the Administrative Tribunal of the World Bank. In addition, he represented a number of countries before the International Court of Justice. For his services he was admitted in 1999 to the Académie des sciences morales et politiques, and in 2001 awarded the Manley O. Hudson Medal of the American Society of International Law.

Life

Prosper Weil was born in 1926 in Strasbourg and completed his education at the Universities of Aix -en- Provence and Paris. In 1952, he earned both his doctorate at the Faculty of Law in Paris and the Agrégation. He then served as a professor at the Universities of Grenoble, Aix -en- Provence and Nice, and from 1965 at the University of Paris and to their distribution in the course of university reform of 1970/1971 at the University of Paris II in the years 1969, 1976 and 1992 he taught at the Hague Academy of International Law.

He is also a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration and from 1980 to 1999 established the Administrative Tribunal of the World Bank, including from 1990 to 1993 as president of the court. In addition, he worked in various arbitration to resolve international disputes, as a consultant or representative of France, Cameroon, Spain, Greece, Canada, Malta, El Salvador, Norway and Bahrain in proceedings before the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Awards

Prosper Weil is since 1981 member of the Institut de Droit International and was also in 1999 to the Académie des sciences morales et politiques in 2008 and recorded a foreign member of the Academy of Athens. The American Society of International Law awarded him in 2001 with the Manley O. Hudson Medal its highest honor.
