Protein Information Resource

The Protein Information Resource (PIR ) is a data source for sequences and functions of proteins at Georgetown University Medical Center ( GUMC ). It operates the databases PIRSF (Protein Family Classification System ) iProClass ( Integrated Protein Knowledgebase ) and iProLINK (Literature Information & Knowledge ).

History

PIR was founded in 1984 by the National Biomedical Research Foundation ( NBRF ). In 2002, PIR together with the EBI ( European Bioinformatics Institute ) and the SIB ( Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics ) protein sequence database UniProt by combining the individual databases PIR - PSD, Swiss-Prot and TrEMBL.
