Their number

Due to the resettlement of Germans from Russia many Lutherans came into the country, but they are emigrated in the 1990s for the most part (see also ELCROS ). There are now only a Lutheran congregation in Dushanbe.

Among the Free Churches, especially the Seventh-day Adventists and Baptists in Tajikistan are active. The Baptist Mission began in 1929; Today there are 33 Baptist congregations with about 1,000 members. Chairman of the German -born Alexandr Vervai.

Many Christians also come from South Asia, besides also from Korea.

Situation

In the Tajik Constitution, freedom of religion is mentioned. However, the authorities consider the Protestant Christians in Tajikistan from the same angle as the militant Muslims in the country. On 1 October 2000, an attack was on a Protestant church in Dushanbe committed, which killed seven people and many more were injured. Most of them were Koreans.
