PS22 Chorus

The PS22 Chorus is an elementary school chorus of Public School 22 in Staten Iceland, New York City. It is composed of 60-70 fifth-graders, and is directed by Gregg Breinberg. The students of the choir are newly chosen each year at the beginning of the school year. They meet twice a week and occur both at school events, as well as special events in New York and the surrounding area. The choir became famous videos on the internet platform YouTube, and by the appearance at the Academy Awards 2011 in Los Angeles. By June 2012, the video of the choir, over 46 million have been viewed.

Music

The choir is known for singing processed R & B and pop songs, especially for his interpretations of artists like Tori Amos and Björk. Partial sing the elementary school students but also of self-written songs Breinberg.

History

The children's choir was founded in 2000 by music teacher Gregg "Mr. B" Breinberg. Since September 2006, the choir has his own blog and has developed through his YouTube videos to an internet sensation. Several radio and television appearances, as well as collaborations with renowned artists followed.

2006/2007

  • The choir has performed in New York City for Tori Amos at the Sony Atrium.
  • Perez Hilton began writing in his blog about the choir.

2007/2008

  • The children of the PS22 Chorus sang with the New Zealand band Crowded House at a concert in New York.

2008/2009

  • The PS22 Chorus contributes three songs from the debut album " Manners " of the band Passion Pit the background vocals on.
  • The choir performed at the American television channel ABC.
  • Before a concert at Madison Square Garden, the choir for Stevie Nicks, singer of the band Fleetwood Mac sang.

2009/2010

  • The children were visited by the actors of the film Fame, and received a check for $ 30,000 for new music equipment from local sponsors.
  • At an awards ceremony they sang for Beyoncé and Lady Gaga.
  • Together with rapper Common, the students were on the National Tree Lighting celebration at the White House in Washington DC and sang for President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
  • While touring the PS22 Chorus Celtic Woman visited and sang along with him at a concert at Radio City Music Hall.
  • After the reggae singer Matisyahu heard the version of the children's choir of his song " One Day", he attended the school in New York and sang along with them in Manhattan.

2010/2011

  • The students were at the charity organization " New Yorkers for Children" on.
  • In assisted by Matt Damon charity ONEXONE the children appeared together with Matisyahu.
  • Kylie Minogue attended elementary school in Staten Iceland to sing to with them.
  • Bruce Cohen and Anne Hathaway visited the choir in New York and announced that the PS 22 Chorus at the Academy Awards 2011 in Los Angeles, California will occur.
  • The PS22 Chorus sang at a concert at Disneyland in Anaheim.
  • On 27 February 2011, the students occurred at the 83rd Academy Awards in Hollywood.
  • David Cook, the winner of the seventh season of American Idol, the students visited and sang along with them.
