Florida Red-bellied eared ( Pseudemys nelsoni )

The Real slider turtles are a species of turtle in the family of New World pond turtles. Their range extends from the southeastern United States to Mexico. The Real slider turtles stay mainly in waters with dense vegetation and are also capable of living in brackish water areas. Among the most genuine jewelry turtles counts the Ordinary eared, who lives mostly in rivers and ditches. Other types of genuine jewelry turtles also inhabit standing waters.

The genus of the Real slider turtles is usually divided into two subgenera. To subgenus Pseudemys ( True slider turtles ) include:

  • Rio -Grande -eared ( Pseudemys gorzugi ) Ward in 1984, which is common in the river system of the Rio Grande in Texas and Mexico, and also occurs in the Pecos River system in southeastern New Mexico and Texas.
  • Peninsula -eared ( Pseudemys penisularis ) Carr 1938, which is spread across the Florida panhandle.
  • Pseudemys texana Baur in 1893, who lives in Central Texas
  • Ordinary eared ( Pseudemys concinna )

Among the subgenus Ptechemys or Red-bellied slider turtles:

  • Alabama red-bellied eared ( Pseudemys alabamensis ) Baur 1893, which is found in Alabama in Mobile Bay.
  • The Florida Red-bellied eared ( Pseudemys nelsoni ) Carr in 1938, which is found in Florida and the Southeast Georgia
  • Pseudemys rubriventris Le Conte in 1830, who lives in eastern Massachusetts and in the central New Jersey to northeastern North Carolina.
