Pseudopoecilia

Pseudopoecilia is a comprehensive three types genus of viviparous carp ( Poeciliinae ). The distribution area extends from Colombia to Ecuador to northern Peru.

Features

The fish of this species can reach lengths of 2 to 4.5 cm. The body color is usually gray to golden brown. On the sides of the body, there are several thin black horizontal stripes. Some populations of Pseudopoecilia festae have held this tuck a broad black longitudinal band along the middle of the body.

Dissemination and lifestyle

Pseudopoecilia species colonize mainly fast flowing waters such as streams and rivers, but even ponds and source waters on the Pacific slope of northwestern South America. Pseudopoecilia festae and Pseudopoecilia fria occur in Ecuador and in the neighboring Southern Peru, Pseudopoecilia austrocolumbiana in southern Colombia. The fish prefer waters that are rich in vegetation.

About the diet in nature nothing is known in aquarium maintenance small live food is recommended. Females of Pseudopoecilia festae bring about every 28 days, 3-8 young fish to the world.
