Pszów

Pszów ( German Pschow ) is a city in the powiat Wodzisławski, Silesian Voivodeship in Poland.

Geography

Pszów is situated 51 kilometers south-west of Katowice and seven kilometers north- west of the county town Wodzisław Slaski.

The municipality has a surface area of 20.42 square kilometers, of which 62 percent are used for agriculture and 14 percent of the area is covered by forest.

History

Until the 18th century

The first written mention of a settlement at this point was made in the year 973. 1265 was the first time the name Pszów mentioned. For the year 1293 the existence of a first wooden church is occupied, around 1350, a second stone church mentioned. To 1544, the Lutheran creed was introduced by Waclaw Siedlicki. 1628, the Catholic faith was re-established. 1692 there is the first written record of a school in 1696 and a tavern. 1722 a copy of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa was brought to Pszów. 1743 to 1746 the Late Baroque pilgrimage church Nativity of Mary was built.

19th century to World War I

1802, the production of potash and lime was added. 1832 a kiln and a steam mill for the lime industry were established. The first license to mine coal issued to Augustine Ferdinand Fritz. 1843 Coal Mine Anna was put into operation. 1848, resulting in near pit village under the name Pschower oarlocks became independent. 1856, a fire destroyed part of the village Pschow. 1882 The first cable car in today's Poland by the Anna mine was built to the station in Czernitz. In 1885, the construction of the road from Czernitz about Rydultau, Pschow the city Loslau. 1901, the road was built by Syrin. 1904 sold count Jan Węgierski Pschow and Kokoschütz to the Polish Bank in Poznan. 1905 was a mining camp in the Anna mine. 1910, the parish hall was built where the town hall is housed. 1914, the railway line from the Anna mine was built after Olsau.

Inter-war period until today

After the plebiscite in Upper Silesia in 1921 Pszów 1922 was assigned to the so-called Polish Eastern Upper Silesia and was part of the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship. After the Polish campaign in September 1939 Pszów came with the invasion of the Wehrmacht back under German administration. 1945, the city became Polish again. 1954 Pszów received its town charter. 1975 Pszów was incorporated into Wodzisław Slaski. 1995 Pszów became an independent municipality again. In 1997 the sanctuary was raised to the rank of minor Basilica.

From 1975 to 1998 belonged to the province Pszów Katowice.

Economy and Transport

The main industry in Pszów is coal mining. The largest employer is the coal mine " Anna ".

By Pszów the voivodship road runs 933 ( Droga wojewódzka 933 ).

Education

In the city there are three kindergartens ( Przedszkole ), three primary schools ( SzkoĹ Podstawowa ), a middle school ( Gimnazjum ) and a vocational school.

  • The Baroque Catholic Basilica of the Nativity of Mary from the 18th century, was not completed until 1862.
