The bird of paradise genus of Reifelvögel ( Ptiloris ) comprises four species that are unlike all other birds of paradise located in Australia. Only one species still living in the south of New Guinea.

Reifelvögel have a long beak that is curved and strong. The females are inconspicuous brown with lighter underside. The males are more colorful: While the body is predominantly black, but there are a shiny metallic green or blue triangle on the throat, and there are times on the head, abdomen and sides of the springs of the same color.
