Public holidays in the Republic of Ireland

Public Holidays of the Republic of Ireland are:

If a public holiday falls on a Saturday, Sunday or on a ( fixed ) public holiday, the day off is laid. The employer has the following choices for its employees: a day off within a month ( working holiday ), a day annual leave or one day later payment ( due to the flexibility of orders ). It is still common practice to declare the following week as a free day for everyone.

The last newly added legal holiday in 1994 was the May Day. Some leading politicians such as Ruairi Quinn ( TD) were in favor of one or two additional holidays to be the European average.
