Puducherry (Lok Sabha constituency)

The Lok Sabha constituency, Puducherry ( Pondicherry until 2004 ) is a constituency in elections to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament. It comprises the whole of the Union territory of Puducherry ( Pondicherry).

Constituency history

The constituency of Pondicherry was established after 1963 from the former French India, the Union Territory of Pondicherry was formed. The first Lok Sabha seat - Pondicherry in 1963 determined in a separate election. Since 1967, Pondicherry takes part in the general elections to the Lok Sabha. Since then, the union territory of Pondicherry was renamed Puducherry in 2006, operates also the constituency since the election to the Lok Sabha in 2009 under the name of Pondicherry.
