The pukapukanische language or short Pukapuka ( Puka Puka spellings also, Bukabuka, Buka Buka ) is a Polynesian language which is spoken in the northern Cook Islands Pukapuka and Nassau from 840 people. Other speakers today live in Rarotonga, New Zealand and Australia. The total number of speakers is 2,000 ( census 1997, according to Ethnologue, 2005).
The word order is VOS (verb - object-subject ) and VSO ( verb-subject - object).
