Pulkovo Heights

The Pulkovo Heights (Russian Пулковские высоты ) are a range of hills south of the Russian city of Saint Petersburg. They run in a south-westerly direction from the Izhora plateau. They reach a height of up to 73 meters. They are named after the nearby village of Pulkovo. The ridge was hotly contested during the Russian Civil War and during the siege of Leningrad in World War II. On the mountain ridge are now the Pulkovo Observatory and the industrial area Shushary.
