Pura Ulun Danu Bratan

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, or Pura Bratan is a major water temple on Bali, which is dedicated to Shiva as creator. Inside the temple there are also statues of Buddha. The temple is situated in the mountains at 1200 m at Lake Bratan. The lake is a volcanic lake near Bedugul, whose water is considered holy. The temple was built in 1663 and is used for Opferzermonien for the Balinese water, lakes and river goddess Dewi Danu, which is a manifestation of Parvati, wife of Shiva. The Lake Bratan is an important source for irrigation in central Bali.
