Purrkur Pillnikk

Purrkur Pillnikk was an Icelandic punk band and was one of the most important Icelandic punk bands during the heyday of punk in Iceland early 80s.

Band History

The band was founded in March 1981 by school friends Einar Örn Benediktsson, Bragi Ólafsson, Fridrik Erlingsson and Ásgeir Ragnar Bragason.

Style

The sound of the band was determined by a very melodic kind of punk, in addition to the typical 3- chord punk sound, the jazz-tinged bass Bragi Ólafsson, was especially Einar Örn's eccentric vocal style to the characteristics of the band. Lyrically worries have been processed, but also a certain dark mood comes with some songs to express. 18 months after its inception, the band broke up in September 1982. Einar Örn then played along with Björk in the band KUKL before they formed the band The Sugarcubes Bragi Ólafsson together with and was an international success.
