Putamen

The putamen (Latin putamen "shell" ) is one of the core areas of the cerebrum and is thus part of the gray matter of the brain.

It, together with the caudate nucleus of the corpus striatum (in short: the striatum ). This is part of the basal ganglia. The putamen, together with the globus pallidus (also called the globus pallidus ) occasionally summarized the lentiform nucleus ( " lens nucleus "). This categorization is controversial because ontogenetic putamen to the cerebrum and the pallidum is part of the diencephalon.

As part of the basal ganglia, the putamen has a role in the control of movements.
