Pygmy flying squirrel
The Kleinstgleithörnchen ( Petaurillus ) are disseminated in Malaysia genus of flying squirrels. It is the smallest of all the flying squirrel. More common for this species is actually the name " Zwerggleithörnchen ", but is synonymous to the genus Petinomys.
Three types can be distinguished:
- Hoses Kleinstgleithörnchen, Petaurillus hosei ( Thomas 1900), northern Borneo
- Emilia Kleinstgleithörnchen, Petaurillus emiliae Thomas in 1908, northern Borneo
- Selangor Kleinstgleithörnchen, Petaurillus kinlochii ( Robinson & Kloss 1911), Malay Peninsula
Emilia Kleinstgleithörnchen is the smallest flying squirrel with a body length of 7 cm and a tail length of 6 cm. The other types are only slightly larger. All species inhabit dense rainforests and are poorly understood.
