Qaasuitsup

Qaasuitsup Press Office is a Greenlandic large community with a population of 17,687 (as of 2012) in an area of ​​660,000 km ². Seat of local government is Ilulissat.

Location

Qaasuitsup Press Office is located in northwestern Greenland. In the east, the municipality borders the unincorporated area of the Northeast Greenland National Park and the municipality Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, to the south by the municipality Qeqqata Press Office. In the north of the municipal territory, the unincorporated area of the Thule Air Base is located ( Greenlandic Pituffik ).

History

Qaasuitsup Press Office was established with effect from January 1, 2009 through merger of the former municipalities Kangaatsiaq, Aasiaat, Qasigiannguit, Ilulissat, Qeqertarsuaq, Uummannaq, Upernavik and Qaanaaq. The municipality thus parts of the former counties Avannaa and Kitaa.

Coat Description: In blue white geleinte eight sled dogs from behind whose blue lines are attached by a broad white expanse of snow visible and two protruding from the plate edge upturned sled runners. About the dogs hover under a set as main shield between the plate edge silver aurora with three sharp cuts at its bottom bar, a rising silver moon with the opening facing to the left, a silver sun without face, with short rays and a silver snowflake.

Symbolism: Designed by artist Kristian Fly coat of arms shows a dog sled with eight dogs, three mountains, a snowflake, sun, moon and the northern lights.
