Qabala

Qəbələ ( Azerbaijani also Qäbälä, debate about Gäbälä; Russian Габала / Gabala or Габеля / Gabelja until 1991 Куткашен / Kutkaschen ) is a city in the same rayon in Azerbaijan. It is located in the Greater Caucasus, 220 kilometers northwest of Baku, near the rivers and Qaraçay Qoçalançay. Not far from the city operates the radar station Qəbələ Russia, which is used to monitor satellites and rockets.

Economy

The city's economy relies on the production of canned vegetables, tobacco and drying of silkworm cocoons.

Culture and recreation

In the city there is a housed in a former mosque museum on the history of the region, are exhibited in the archaeological finds. Among Greek coins from the time of Alexander the Great. There is also a cultural center in the city from the Soviet era, which is decorated with a large mosaic, several old stone houses and the monument of Rashidbek. In Qəbələ further is a named after Heydar Aliyev Park.

Around 20 kilometers from the town are the ruins of the ancient city Çuxur Qəbələ from the 4th century BC, were discovered in 1959.
