The Qantas Founders Outback Museum ( German: Qantas Founders Museum) is an aviation museum in Longreach, Queensland, Australia. Longreach was from 1921 to 1929 the seat of Qantas.

Qantas story

The museum shows the history of Qantas flight, the second oldest continuously registered airline in the world and Australia 's oldest and largest airline, the first as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services LTD. Founded on November 16, 1920 in Winton and in 1921 came to Longreach.

With the historic hangar from 1922 as the center, the museum displays various aircraft of historical significance for Qantas. It also houses the airline's first jet aircraft from 1959, a Boeing 707-138. The Boeing 707 from 1959 was restored in Southend Airport in England in 2006. It was then returned to a 28- hour flight to Australia in December 2006 and flew on 10 June 2007 its lineup to Longreach. The oldest airworthy aircraft of this type in 1959, was the first driven with jet airliner from Qantas and was most recently a Saudi prince, but it had not flown six years before the restoration.

The museum is the site of the decommissioned Boeing 747-200 of Australian airline Qantas with the inscription " The Spirit of Australia" that enter entirely by the public and can be visited. This aircraft, named "City of Bunbury ", took its maiden flight on 28 November 1979, was donated by Qantas to the museum in 2002. The aircraft was supposed to be scrapped. The runway of the airport Longreach was basically built only for small aircraft, and in order to avoid weight problems, all the seats, the interior trim and any ballast were removed. In order to Boeing to fly the 1000 km long route from Brisbane to Longreach, she was refueled with just enough kerosene, while all the removed parts were transported by truck to Longreach.
