Qena (Arabic قنا, Qinā DMG ) is a city in Upper Egypt and the capital of the Qena Governorate.
It lies on the east bank of the Nile. Qena was known as Kaine during the Greco -Roman period. Its population is 214 851 (calculated 2008) and 206 831 inhabitants ( 2006 census ).
Qena was restored in large parts and finished third in the UNESCO City Beauty Contest.
