Quarteira is a municipality and city in the Algarve in Portugal. It belongs to the municipality of Loulé, an area of 37.9 km ² and 21,575 inhabitants (as of 30 June 2011), was / is equivalent to a population density of 569 inhabitants km ².

The place was awarded to a city ( Cidade ) on 28 June 1984, the status of a small town ( Vila ) and on 13 May 1999.

In the city of Quarteira is Vilamoura, ( " Moorish city "), a company established several years ago Marina with attached cottage-colony.
