Quebec Aces

The As de Québec were a Canadian ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League from Québec City, Québec. The venue of the As was the Quebec Coliseum.

History

The As de Québec were created in 1928 and first played eight years in the Quebec City Railway Paper - League. The team then played a further eight years in the Quebec Amateur Hockey Association and won the 1944 Allan Cup. This year, the team also joined the Quebec Senior Hockey League, in which they first played until 1953. Subsequently, the League was a semi-professional and was renamed Quebec Hockey League. In this Quebec City also entered, which she won in 1954 and 1957. In addition, the team won the 1957 Edinburgh Trophy.

In 1959, Quebec had the opportunity to join the American Hockey League. Following the franchise missed four consecutive time the playoffs before the ace in the season 1963/64, the first time the finals of the Calder Cup reached, where they lost in a sweep in the best- of-seven series, the Cleveland Barons. Then different Quebec three times in a row in the first round, before the newly formed Philadelphia Flyers received a cooperation with the Canadians from the National Hockey League in 1967. In the 1967/68 season and 1968 /69 team reached the playoffs while back, but lost both times against the Rochester Americans and the Hershey Bears.

In 1971, the Philadelphia Flyers decided their farm team to Richmond, Virginia, to resettle, where it was active as Richmond Robins in the AHL from now on.
