Quebracho (group)

Quebracho ( officially: Movimiento Revolucionario Patriótico quebracho quebracho abbreviated MPR ) is a political movement in Argentina, which is assigned to the extreme left of the political spectrum, but also the typical elements of the extreme right-wing ideology are accused (especially anti-Semitism and nationalism ). It is a cross- front movement, which appeals to many left-wing theorists, but on a demonstration supported the Islamic fascist Hezbollah. It was founded in 1996 by members left splinter parties and sees himself in the tradition of resistance and guerrilla movements of the 60s and 70s, such as the Montoneros. The name comes from the spread in Argentina quebracho tree.

Ideology and organizational form

Goal of the movement is a socialist, free Latin America according to the ideals of Simón Bolívar. It hardly differs from other leftist movements in Argentina; However, the relationships of quebracho to other groups with similar goals are bad by the violence of the movement and the often perceived as radical activism.

Although the movement can not be classified as a party in the real sense and also practically does not participate in elections, it is always because of their activities present in the media. Quebracho takes part in protest marches and demonstrations part of all kinds and there falls mainly because of street battles with the police or cases of property damage, to both private and public institutions, on. Activists of the movement usually occur with cloths wrapped up in appearance. Often members of quebracho infiltrate protest the so-called Piquetero movement and taking advantage of it for their own purposes.

The President of the organization is Fernando Esteche. Around him entwines the persistent rumor that he was in fact an agent of the Argentine intelligence service (SIDE), who was infiltrated into the reign of Carlos Menem in the movement in order to discredit them. In 2003, confirmed the former chairman of the SIDE this, without being able to prove it clearly.

Anti-Semitism accusation

In 2006, caught the movement sensation, than some of their leaders showed their solidarity with anti-Israel statements by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. However, the motion asserted thereafter to be set not anti-Semitic, but anti-imperialist.
