Queen's Club

The Queen's Club is a sports club in London's West Kensington. He organized the discharged annually Queen 's Club Championships, one of the world's most important tournaments in the lawn tennis. The Queen's Club is also the seat of the national federation for " Real Tennis " (English name for the Jeu de Paume ) and the venue for the British Championships this sport.

On the club grounds the world's first multi-purpose sports facility was built. This now includes 28 outdoor tennis courts, eight tennis courts in the hall (also with grass), two playing fields for the Jeu de Paume and racquets, three playing fields for squash and a gym.

History

Was founded, named after Queen Victoria Queen's Club in 1886. During the first decades of not less than 25 sports were exercised, including figure skating, baseball, track, football and rugby. During the Summer Olympics in 1908, the Queen's Club hosted the competitions in indoor tennis, Jeu de Paume and racquets.

Until 1922 at the Queen's Club the home games of the football club Corinthian FC were held. A single international match took place here, an encounter between England and Wales on March 18, 1895 (the result was 1:1). The late 1920s, most sports were outsourced to other locations and the Queen's Club focused on tennis and related sports.
