Queen Elizabeth II Park was a sports stadium in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was built as a central stadium for the Commonwealth Games in 1974, and was for a long Jahredas leading sports stadium in New Zealand. It was demolished after the earthquake in 2011.

Description

The stadium has a capacity of 20,000 people. It includes a career and a public swimming and diving pool, also a cricket field called " The Village Green " behind the main building.

Through extensive reconstruction and modernization measures that were completed in 2007, the stadium shines in a polished finish. Instead of the continuous benches wooden single seats were installed. The leafy western slope gives the stadium a semi-natural appearance.

Around the stadium are sports facilities, which make the entire object into a center of professional sport.

Use

After the Commonwealth Games in 1974, for which it was built, the stadium was often used for football matches and athletics events. It was also used for greyhounds racing and many other local and international sporting events. In the following years, numerous international matches and league matches were played here.

The football enjoys in the Queen Elizabeth II Park traditionally had a strong position. The team is playing Canterbury United, which competes in the New Zealand Football League New Zealand Football Championship ( NZFC ). A number of other teams and universities use the facility as well. These include the New Zealand Academy of Sport, the QEII Centre of Excellence, Sport Canterbury Westland and the Christchurch City Council Sports Services. In order for the Queen Elizabeth II Park is a valuable center for trainers activities and the promotion of players.

It is one of the stadiums for the U-17 World Cup Women Women in 2008. This stadium six group matches and the two semi-finals will take place.
