Queen Emma Bridge

The Queen Emma Bridge (Dutch Queen Emmabrug ) or " Pontjesbrug " is a characteristic pontoon bridge in the center of Willemstad on Curaçao. It drives on the " Sint Annabaai " and connects the districts of Punda and Otrabanda. The bridge is not a fixed shore connection, but it can be rotated by Otrabanda out to the shore to allow passage between the Caribbean Sea and the St. Anna Bay. This design is unique in the world. This is also where the nickname Swinging Old Lady (, Rotating old lady ').

When opening the bridge the other side can be reached via a free ferry.

It was built in 1888 and 1939 and 2006 completely renewed. It was named after the Dutch Queen Emma.

At the beginning of the Queen Emma Bridge was dutiable. Only people with no shoes were allowed to cross the bridge for free.
